action
Vandhana, daughter of doctor Gopal Tripathi, falls in love with Air Force pilot Arun. One day they spontaneously get married in front of a priest by hanging garlands of flowers around each other's necks. Afterwards, Arun promises to organize an "official" wedding. But it doesn't even get that far. Shortly afterwards, Arun crashes while on an airplane. In the hospital he succumbs to his injuries. Vandhana is desperate. She is already pregnant by Arun, but her marriage is not recognized. Because of the illegitimate child, she is threatened with exclusion from society.
Vandhana doesn't let herself get down and is determined to fulfill Arun's last wish: The common child should also become an Air Force pilot.
When Vandhana gives birth, she secretly takes her son to an orphanage, only to be adopted the next day. But the next day the baby is already gone: a good-natured man, Ram Prasad Saxena, adopted the child because his wife had already had three miscarriages. Still, Saxena allows Vandhana to live in his house as a nanny so that she can be close to her son Suraj.
A few years later ... When Saxena's brother-in-law comes to visit, he keeps an eye on the pretty Vandhana. After waiting for the right moment, he tries to rape Vandhana. Little Suraj comes to help Vandhana and kills his uncle Shyam in the process. In order not to burden Suraj unnecessarily, she takes all the blame and is sued to 14 years imprisonment.
After just 12 years, Vandhana was dismissed for good conduct. The jailer warmly welcomes her into his home and makes her his daughter Renu's surrogate mother. Vandhana soon learns of Renu's lover: It is the Air Force pilot Suraj, Vandhana's son. First she wants to cover up her relationship with her son so that Suraj is not excluded from society. However, Suraj's old pictures fall into his parents' hands and is happy to finally know the whole truth. Vandhana is even allowed to present her son with a medal of honor, fulfilling Arun's last wish.

criticism
Equipped in this way with immortal music, with three Filmfare awards in the bag (best film, Tagore, Kumar) and an overwhelming box office result in the bag, "Aradhana" has secured a place in Bollywood history. A classic that still moves you to tears today and from which 08/15 romances can still learn a lot. (from molodezhnaja.ch)
