Sachin Bhowmick ( Bengali : শচীন ভৌমিক, Śacīn Bhaumik; born July 17, 1930 in Kolkata , † April 12, 2011 in Mumbai ) was an Indian screenwriter . He was involved in around 100 film productions, and he also directed one film.

Life

Sachin Bhowmick went from Kolkata to Mumbai in the late 1950s and replaced the author Premendra Mitra in a film there . His first work was in 1958 for the film Lajwanti with Nargis in the lead role. For Hrishikesh Mukherjees Anuradha (1961) he used a short story that he had already published in a Bengali magazine. According to statements in his autobiography, Bhowmick was inspired by Flaubert's " Madame Bovary ".

In addition to film novels, Bhowmick also wrote thrillers and comedies; alongside Hrishik Mukherjee, he also worked for Nasir Hussain , Subhash Ghai and Rakesh Roshan . He realized his only own film direction in 1973 with Raja Rani with Rajesh Khanna and Sharmila Tagore in the leading roles. He received a Filmfare Award for Best Story for Brahmachari , and received nominations for Aradhana (1969) and Pehchan (1970) in that category .

In 2003, he made a defamation charge against UK bestselling author Barbara Taylor Bradford after she sued him for copyright infringement on a television soap opera.

Bhowmick died of heart failure at his home in Bandra , Mumbai, aged 80 .
