Sukth ( Albanian also Sukthi ) is a large village northeast of Durrës in western Albania in the municipality of Durrës, Qark Durrës .
Until 2015, Sukth was the official seat of an independent Bashkia , which in addition to Sukth included five other neighboring towns. The Bashkia had, depending on the source, 15,966 (2011 census) to 24,526 inhabitants (2008).
The village is divided into two districts by the ore , namely an older and a newer one (Alb. Sukth i Ri ). Sukth is located in the middle of the Durrës plain about three kilometers north of the historic market town of Shijak . The Adriatic Sea is only seven kilometers away.
The main connection between Durrës and Tirana , the capital of Albania , runs south of the village . At a distance of approximately 600 meters, which extend parallel to railway Durrës-Tirana the HSH , and the national road SH2 by Sukth. The SH2 near Sukth on the Durrës- Vora route also forms the A1 motorway , which connects Durrës with Kosovo .
In addition to the main town, the villages of Hamallaj , Kulla , Perlat , Vadardha and Rrushkull belong to the Bashkia Sukth . The last mayor after the 2011 elections was Sherif Fortuzi ( PD ).
Since the early 1990s, the community has seen a high level of immigration, especially from the northern and eastern regions of Albania. A little more than 50 percent of households declared in 2008 that they had immigrated after 1990. More than half of the residents do not have a building permit. In around a fifth of households at that time, the main breadwinner was working abroad.
The landscape is strongly characterized by the agricultural plain and the industrial areas along the motorway.
