Sulcorebutia canigueralii is a species of plant in the genus Sulcorebutia from the cactus family(Cactaceae). Thespecific epithet honors Father Juan Canigueral, priest at the La Recoleta Monastery in Sucre in Bolivia .

Sulcorebutia canigueralii grows sprouting and forming groups with flattened spherical, slate-gray to brownish bodies. With a diameter of 3 centimeters, these reach heights of up to 2.5 centimeters and have a long, often branched beet root. The approximately 13 ribs are clearly divided into cusps. The areoles on it are narrow, elliptical and white. The whitish thorns are brown at their base. There are seldom 1 to 2 slightly protruding central spines. The fine bristle-like 11 to 14 radial spines are 1.5 to 3 millimeters long.

The light to dark magenta, red or orange-red flowers have a yellow throat and are more or less flamed. They are 3 to 4 centimeters long and have a diameter of up to 5 centimeters. The fruits are dark brownish red.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Sulcorebutia canigueralii is widespread in the Bolivian department Chuquisaca in the area of ​​the capital Sucre at altitudes between 2000 and 3500 meters.

The first description as Rebutia canigueralii was published in 1964 by Martín Cárdenas (1899–1973). Albert Frederik Hendrik Buining and John Donald Donald (1923-1996) placed them a year later in the genus Sulcorebutia . There are a lot of invalid double descriptions and recombinations and a multitude of synonyms .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
