Sulcorebutia viridis is a species of plant in the genus Sulcorebutia from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The species name emphasizes the striking green color of the plant body.

description

Sulcorebutia viridis usually grows individually and rarely forms side shoots with age. The flat, spherical, dark green or light green bodies reach a diameter of up to 8 centimeters and remain very flat. They have a beet root that is up to 8 centimeters long and tapered to a cone. The 12 millimeter long and 5 to 7 millimeter wide bumps are coarse and flat. The oval areoles arranged on the top of the cusps are 6 to 7 millimeters long and at the top 2 millimeters wide. The hard up to 18 (up to 20) thorns have different light colors. A distinction is made between the white or gray radial spines directed to the side, lying close to the body or only slightly protruding from the body, and the 3 to 5 upwardly directed, up to 15 millimeters long, piercing white to dark brown (rarely black) central spines.

The green or red to red-brown buds appear from the lower areoles on the plant body. The funnel-shaped flowers have a diameter of 40 to 45 millimeters. The petals are deep red or magenta in color. The white to cream-colored stylus is free-standing. The stamens are also white to cream in color.

The seeds measure 1.0 to 1.2 by 0.8 to 1.0 millimeters and are keeled dorsally. The germ pore emerges indistinctly.

The differentiation to Sulcorebutia tarvitaensis is justified by the larger body, the stronger thorns, the more oval areoles and the smaller seeds.

distribution

Sulcorebutia viridis is distributed in the Bolivian department of Chuquisaca in the province of Zudáñez at altitudes of 2500 to 2800 meters. The plants grow on hard, flat, broken quartz sandstone . They are associated with Sulcorebutia heliosoides and Sulcorebutia hertusii .
