Sulim Bekmirsajewitsch Jamadajew ( Russian: Сулим Бекмирзаевич Ямадаев ; * 1973 in Benoi , Checheno-Ingushetia ; † March 30, 2009 in Dubai ) was a Russian - Chechen volunteer leader and officer.

Life

Sulim Yamadayev fought on the side of the Chechen separatists against Russia in the First Chechen War . The family clan controlled the city of Gudermes after this war . Together with his brothers, he switched sides in the Second Chechen War . After strictly Islamic groups had gained influence in Chechnya, Akhmat Kadyrov and his field commanders, the Yamadayev brothers, turned away from the separatists in 1999 and turned to the Russian side. The brothers, especially Sulim Yamadayev, organized the surrender of Gudermes without a fight. After the fighting ended, Sulim's brother Ruslan (1961-2008) became a member of the Duma and was named " Hero of the Russian Federation ". Sulim himself was finally appointed Deputy Military Commander of Grozny in 2002 with the rank of major general.

From 2004 Sulim's unit was officially assigned to the Russian security forces under the name "Vostok" ("East") and subordinated to the Russian GRU . The unit is accused of human rights violations during and after the Chechen war. In particular, parts of “Vostok” in the village of Borosdinovskaya are said to have carried out a brutal “cleanup” on June 4, 2005.

In the spring of 2008 there was an open power struggle between the Yamadayev clan and the clan of President Ramzan Kadyrov in Chechnya . The conflict was carried out at gunpoint, among other things. Kadyrov eventually recruited part of Sulim Yamadayev's troops. In August 2008, Sulim Yamadayev was released from the army.

On March 29, 2009, Yamadayev was assassinated in Dubai and died the next day as a result.
