Consumer Electronics Show
The CES (originally an abbreviation for Consumer Electronics Show ) is one of the world's largest trade shows for consumer electronics . It takes place every January in the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) in Winchester . The CES usually lasts four days (2021 from January 11th to 14th), in 2022 only shortened by one day due to the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic from January 5th to 7th. Only invited guests such as industry experts, journalists and sector insiders are admitted. The organizer is the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), a trade organization for electronic consumer products in theUnited States .
Many well-known manufacturers from the electronics industry presented new products or announced innovations in Las Vegas . Therefore, the CES is considered to be the first indicator of where consumer electronics could develop in the further course of the year.
story
1967 to 1997
The first CES took place in New York in June 1967 as an offshoot of the Chicago Music Show , the largest consumer fair for electronic devices to date. The first event had 17,500 visitors and more than 100 exhibitors. It was opened by Motorola board member Bob Galvin.
From 1978 to 1994 the fair was held twice a year, as the Winter Consumer Electronics Show (WCES) in January in Las Vegas and as the Summer Consumer Electronics Show (SCES) in June in Chicago. While the winter CES remained successful in the mid-1990s, the summer CES lost a lot of interest. From 1995 onwards there were several attempts to achieve a higher level of attention by changing the venues, but these were ultimately unsuccessful. From 1998
CES has been held annually in Las Vegas since 1998.
Microsoft took part in the fair for the last time in 2012 . According to their own statements, the date does not fit into corporate planning and in the future they wish to communicate more via alternative channels such as Facebook or Twitter . With 153,000 visitors and 3,100 exhibitors in 2012, the previous CES record years of 2006 and 2008 were exceeded somewhat, but the industry is generally expecting the trade fair to become less important.
