Summoner 2 is the successor to the action role-playing game Summoner by Volition and was released by THQ for the PlayStation 2 in September 2002 . In 2003 the game came out under the title Summoner: A Goddess Reborn in a version adapted by the Cranky Pants Games for the GameCube .

action

Summoner 2 takes place 20 years after Joseph's adventures in the predecessor. At the time when Joseph is reborn as the god Urath with the help of the conjuring rings, the new protagonist of the game Maia is born in Halassar, a province of the Galdyr Empire, far from Medeva and Orenia . According to an ancient prophecy, she is the reincarnation of the goddess Laharah ( Goddess Reborn , see subtitle of the Gamecube version) and is destined to fulfill a great fate. At the age of only four, Maia became Queen of Halassar. But the priests of Urath see Laharah's enemies in the followers and therefore try to kill Maia.

The adventure begins on Midnight Lake, where pirates try to kidnap Maia. But with the help of her friend Sangaril, a Munari, she can defeat the pirates. Since Maia has reached the appropriate age, she must fulfill her prophecy. According to prophecy, Laharah planted the tree of Eleh a very long time ago. But this was destroyed by a mighty storm and so evil came into the world. Laharah left Halassar to find a way to heal the tree. She has now returned in the form of Maias to fulfill this promise. Maia is supported in her task by her combat instructor Taurgis, Prince Neru, a pirate of the Midnight Sea, the Munari assassin Sangaril, the gladiator Morbazan, the machine creature Iari, Krobelus, who is anything but loyal, and the character Yago known from the predecessor .

Gameplay

The basic concept of the game is identical to its predecessor, there were only moderate improvements in the presentation and graphics. In the game itself, the number of heroes available for your own group is significantly larger than in the predecessor. The main change in the game is the combat system, which has been simplified, resulting in easier access to the chain system and faster, more action-based combat. The possible combos were assigned to the different classes instead of special heroes, and various options were added.

development

The game was officially announced by THQ on April 19, 2002 for PlayStation 2.

The completion of the work was announced on August 28, 2002 and publication in the USA was set for September 13, 2002. When designing the design, Volition sought a change from the typical fantasy design and based the architecture of the Kingdom of Halassar on Indian culture, but also incorporated influences from science fiction . Since the game, unlike its predecessor, was developed exclusively for the game console, the developer decided on a more action-oriented game principle.

In November 2002, THQ announced the port of the game to the Gamecube with the original title Summoner: The Prophecy , which was then changed to the final subtitle A Goddess Reborn in December .

In 2013 publisher THQ had to file for bankruptcy and was broken up. The rights to Summoner and Summoner 2 went to the Swedish publisher Nordic Games after an auction on April 15, 2013, along with 150 other titles for a total of 4.9 million US dollars .
