Sumuru - Planet der Frauen is a 2003 world premiere science fiction film with Alexandra Kamp and Michael Shanks in the lead roles. It is based on the character "Sumuru" by the author Sax Rohmer .

action

The women on earth have become sterile from a virus. One remembers a colony that settled on the planet Antaris 914 years ago . One hopes to get an antidote from there. The pilot Adam Wade goes on a search with Jake Carpenter. They ultimately have to make an emergency landing on the planet, and Jake is injured. So Adam starts looking alone. He meets a boy named Will, who has been chasing a dog he calls a dog . Will is to be offered as a sacrifice to a giant snake shortly afterwards. Taxan, the serpent's priestess, demands his sacrifice. She sees herself as a goddess and is worshiped and protected by the snake warriors. Adam follows the women and finds out that the planet is ruled by women. The supreme royal ruler is Sumuru.

Will's sister Dove is part of the Sumuru bodyguard, so she pardons the boy. Adam is exposed during the interrupted ceremony and has to flee, Will follows him. The priestess's fighters chase him to the spaceship and shoot him with poisonous arrows. Adam is hit and ultimately saved by Sumuru. Jake tells Adam that he has found out that the planet is suffering from earthquakes and will collapse in a few weeks. Will is curious and slowly makes friends with them.

Adam is brought to the queen shortly afterwards. She wants to speak to him alone, although Dove advises against it. Sumuru is curious and asks Adam. It makes her know that they have come to help the planet and its inhabitants. Adam suggests evacuating the people. Sumuru doesn't believe him. But she leads Adam around and shows him the men of Antaris . You have to work hard, from child to old age. Men are seen as the cause of all evil, as women were previously oppressed under their rule and many people died long ago. Adam is outraged about the situation and there is a short fight with the queen. Her bodyguard overpowers him and he is imprisoned with Jake.

The serpent warrior wants to kill Adam, but a fight ensues in which Dove dies. The warriors kidnap Adam and take him to Taxan. She wants to seize power and kill Sumuru. But Adam doesn't want to ally with her. Sumuru pretends to be a warrior and wants to hold Taxan accountable for guilty of Dove's death. Jake joined her, as did Will. All together they make their way to a forbidden zone, there is a spaceship, as Jake realizes. Sumuru wishes Adam and Jake to leave the planet. On the way they pass through a prison, the men do not react to Sumuru's objection, they want to free the inmates. Then the snake warriors attack. Adam opens the gates and Sumuru orders the captured men to flee.

Adam, Jake, Sumuru and Will set off with two bodyguards, pursued by the warriors and taxanes. They find out that there was radiation that caused most of the men to die from being nearby, and so the women came to power. There are always tremors. Adam has to confess to Sumuru that the inhabitants of the earth and all colonies need their help. The small group reaches the forbidden zone and also the spaceship. Jake gets a reactor running to power the shuttle. Taxan and her warriors attack, she wants to kill Sumuru to take control. The two women fight, where Taxane is seriously injured by a violent electric shock and is later killed by Adam.

The inhabitants of the planet watch the spaceship take off. There is a clarifying conversation between Sumuru and Adam and a kiss. They land the shuttle and Sumuru announces that they are all going to the stars. She is given a scepter, but she throws it away. She no longer wants to rule. All residents enter the shuttle, but the big snake attacks. Jake kills the snake by firing the engines. You are heading for a colony. Will and dog meet again happily . In the last scene Adam and Sumuru can be seen looking forward to their future.

criticism

"Science fiction fantasy based on an adventure novel by Sax Rohmer, who would like to tie in stylistically with Planet of the Apes and Barbarella, but cannot really throw himself into the balance."

"Cheap, exaggerated, but thanks to the involuntary humor, never boring."
