Sunzi
Sunzi ( Chinese 孫子 / 孙子 , Pinyin Sūnzǐ , W.-G. Sun Tzu , Jyutping Syun 1 Zi 2 - "literally Master Sun"; obsolete Lessing-Othmer Sun-dsï , Stange Sun Tse , Unger Sun Tsi , Sun Tsu , majority name 長卿 / 长卿 , Chángqīng , born as 孫武 / 孙武 , Sūn Wǔ ; * around 544 BC in Qi ; † around 496 BC in Wu ) was a Chinese general, military strategist and philosopher.
Life
Little is known about Sunzi's life. He was born as the son of a noble family in the then kingdom of Qi in hist. Le'an ( 樂 安 / 乐 安 , Lè'ān ), today's Huimin County in Shandong Province , according to other sources, his birthplace was the state of Wu; Sunzi lived between approx. 534 BC. BC and 453 BC BC, ie in the transition period during the spring and autumn annals (770–476 BC). He died in GUSU ( 姑蘇 / 姑苏 ) in the State of Wu - today Wuzhong , a district of the current city Suzhou .
About the art of war
His book “The Art of War” ( 孫子兵 法 / 孙子兵 法 , Sūnzǐ Bīngfǎ - “Sunzi about the art of war”) is considered to be the earliest book on strategy and to this day is one of the most important works on this topic.
Descendants
One of Sunzi's descendants was Sun Bin , a military strategist who also wrote a book on the arts of war.
