Suncadia

Suncadia is a planned city -scale unincorporated community and resort in Kittitas County in the State of Washington , which occupies an area of 25.5 square kilometers. It is 80 miles (130 km) east of Seattle on the Cascade Range between Roslyn , Cle Elum, and the Mountains to Sound Greenway section of Interstate 90 .

The resort is a joint venture between Jeld-Wen and Lowe Enterprises as the contractor. The one billion dollar project offers a four-star mountain hotel with conference rooms, a spa whose motto is “mountain springs”, a sports center with indoor and outdoor pools, and an open-air amphitheater / lake that is used for ice skating in winter , Hiking trails and recreation areas, 2,000 accommodations and three golf courses . There are restaurants and shops in a village center.

Over 500 single and family accommodations were sold in 2004, generating revenue of US $ 125 million.

The public space of the facility includes a 4.9 km² corridor along the Cle Elum River , which remains open to the public and is a joint project ( Suncadia Conservancy ) of the operator with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Yakama . A grassroots group called RIDGE is looking after the interests of the local residents in relation to the development of the project, including the corridor .

Suncadia, originally called "MountainStar", was built on former forest property in 1996 by the Plum Creek Timber Company through Jeld-Wen's Trendwest Investments .
