Supergeil is a song by Der Tourist featuring Friedrich Liechtenstein , which became popular in 2014 in the version for a promotional video for the supermarket chain Edeka on the Internet.

Already in 2006 the hip-hop duo Icke & Er from Spandau released the song “ Richtig geil” on the label Four Music , in which they list in spoken chant in Berlin what they think is “really cool”. The song became a branded song for the two of them, and various versions of the song, each with new lyrics, were posted on the Internet. In 2011 the duo brought the piece Icke - The Opera to the Volksbühne Berlin . The director was Jakob Grunert , and one of the actors was Friedrich Liechtenstein , an artist with a distinctive white beard. He is not only a stage performer, but also a musician himself and had released two albums in which his vocals and spoken vocals were accompanied by the electro music of Arnold Kasar and Hanno Leichtmann. In 2010 he took part in the hip-hop formation Deichkind in their play “Deichkind in Müll - a discourse operetta”. In 2012, Hamburg had a cult hit with Unfortunately Geil , a song similar to Richtig geil by Icke & Er. In the same year Liechtenstein was hired for the video for the electro piece Kackvogel by Solomun , which Jakob Grunert also directed. In it, he dances and grooves to the beat through Berlin streets and the subway and finally wrestles down an advertising list disguised as a Berlin bear . The video achieved seven-digit views on the video platform YouTube .

At the end of 2012, the project Der Tourist was born, which in 2013 released the song Supergeil on the Spandau label Starlight Musik . Friedrich Liechtenstein is not only the main actor, who can be seen in front of and behind the scenes of the Berlin Volksbühne. With his deep, smoky voice he also speaks the lyrics to catchy, calm electro-pop music. The video was published in early 2013 and received a lot of attention. Among other things, it gave the creative director Hans-Peter Sporer of the Hamburg agency Jung von Matt the idea of proposing the piece for their product advertising to the advertising department of the food company Edeka . Jakob Grunert and Friedrich Liechtenstein then shot a new video on behalf of the Jung von Matt agency, in which numerous items from the retailer's range are presented in everyday scenes and described as "super cool". Liechtenstein prances through the supermarket shelves and sits at the checkout. The video was released in early 2014 and became a viral hit . It was viewed over four million times in just under a week. In addition, as is usual in such cases, numerous imitation videos with their own representations and text by fans were created on the Internet. American online magazines such as BuzzFeed and Slate reported on the Internet success from Germany. At the same time as the video was released, the song was also released as a purchase download on the Polydor label on February 21, and immediately made it into the German single charts .

After that there were a number of imitators and parodies and allusions to the song again and again. Among other things, Liechtenstein installed it as a laudator when it appeared at the 2014 Echo Awards.

A cover version of the Junge Union Darmstadt, which was intended as an advertisement for the European election campaign , was removed from the network at the request of Der Tourist in May 2014. The band justified the rejection on their Facebook page with, among other things, "Because you didn't ask" and "Because you are the Junge Union".

In July 2014 Heino covered the song for ProSiebenSat1 .
