Surajpur is a city in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh .

The city is the capital of the Surajpur district . Surajpur has the status of a Municipal Council . The city is divided into 15 wards . On the cut-off date of the 2011 census it had 20,189 inhabitants, of which 10,430 were men and 9,759 women . The literacy rate in 2011 was 79.9% and thus above the national average. Hindus make up the majority of the city's population with a share of around 82%. Muslims form a minority with a share of around 14%.

Surajpur Railway Station is 6 km from the city center in the northern part. The station provides connection with Bhopal , the state capital of Madhya Pradesh and Raipur, the state capital of Chhattisgarh.
