It is located 800 m west of the western tip of Neny Island and 300 m southeast of Runaway Island .
Participants in the British Graham Land Expedition (1934–1937) led by the Australian polar explorer John Rymill carried out a rough map in 1936. The Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey (FIDS) specified this in 1947. The rock is named after the waves breaking here .
