Survir Jit Singh Chhatwal (born October 1, 1931 in Bannu ) is a former Indian diplomat .

Life

Survir Jit Singh Chhatwal is the son of Datar and Master of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University . In 1955 he joined the Foreign Service. From 1958 to 1960 he was employed in Madrid and from 1960 to 1962 he was Deputy Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in New Delhi . From 1962 to 1964 he was first-class delegation secretary in Havana and from 1965 to 1966 in the public relations department in New Delhi. From 1966 to 1968 he was First Class Secretary in Ottawa . From 1968 to 1971 he was Consul General in Seoul . From 1972 to 1973 he was director in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 1973 to 1975 he was chief of protocol in the government of India. From 1975 to 1979 he was High Commissioner in Kuala Lumpur . From 1979 to 1982 he was ambassador to Kuwait . From 1982 to 1985 he was High Commissioner in Colombo . From June 1985 to March 1990 he was High Commissioner in Ottawa. From March 1990 to 1991 he was a professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University . From 1991 to 1996 he was a member and president of the Union Public Service Commission .
