Susanne Popp

Susanne Popp (née Stalmann ; born November 26, 1944 in Mühlhausen / Thuringia ) is a German musicologist. From 1981 to September 2019 she was head of the Max Reger Institute . She has published numerous works that deal with the life and work of the German composer.

Life

From 1963, Popp studied musicology, mathematics and education at the University of Bonn . In 1971 she did her doctorate with studies on Robert Schumann's choral works . She then stayed in Israel with her husband Manfred Popp for two years . After her return to Germany in 1973 she became a freelancer at the Max Reger Institute in Bonn . In 1981 she was appointed its head. Under her leadership, the institute developed into a globally recognized center for research on Max Reger . The MRI has been based in Karlsruhe since 1996 .

In addition to her work at the institute, she has been on the board of the working group of independent cultural institutes - AsKI since 1999 . In 2002 she also became deputy chairwoman of the board of the non-profit association “ Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now ”, Upper Rhine. In April 2003 she was appointed honorary professor at the Karlsruhe University of Music .

In 2007 she was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon for her outstanding achievements in the field of musicology and her long-term commitment in the artistic and social field .
