Susanne Walsleben

Susanne Walsleben (born November 15, 1957 in Sundern, North Rhine-Westphalia ; until 1998 Susanne Stein , pseudonym Lisa Schneider ) is a German journalist and author . She was the last editor-in-chief of the former GDR women's magazine Sibylle until it was closed in 1995, as well as editor-in-chief of other women's and fashion magazines. As an author, she publishes advice and non-fiction as well as fiction.

Life and work

Susanne Stein studied literature and history. From 1983 she completed her editorial traineeship at the Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung . From 1986 to 1990 she was an editor at the women's magazine Freund . From 1990 she worked as a freelance journalist and author.

In November 1991 she became the deputy editor-in-chief of the fashion and culture magazine Sibylle , which was published by Gong-Verlag at the time , and in April 1993 she became editor-in-chief. The publisher's intention was to establish the magazine, whose specialty was artistic photography and the extensive cultural section, on the German market as a whole. The economic expectations were not fulfilled, especially since potential advertisers were holding back. In 1994 the editorial team bought the magazine. Stein stayed until the last issue, which appeared in February 1995. In retrospect, she regretted that it had not been possible to maintain the Sibylle with its sophisticated aesthetics, if not as a general-interest magazine, then at least as a niche product.

Susanne Stein took over the editor-in-chief of Burda Moden from 1995 to 2000 . During this time, she got married in 1998, since she has been called Walsleben, but continues to publish some books as Susanne Stein. In 2000, Burda published the weekly magazine Vivian , which was aimed at politically and economically interested as well as net-savvy readers. As editor-in-chief, Walsleben was responsible for the print edition, which started with 600,000 copies in October. The Vivian project failed and was discontinued after a few weeks.

In May 2001, Walsleben moved from Offenburg to Hamburg to join Heinrich Bauer Verlag, where she succeeded editor -in- chief Karl-Heinz Blumenberg at bella . After leaving in 2004, she worked as a freelancer, including for the magazine Für Sie ; In 2008, Jahreszeiten Verlag appointed her deputy editor-in-chief of the magazine. In 2015 she temporarily took over the management of the editorial department until Julia Brinckman replaced Sabine Fäth , editor-in-chief , who had left the publisher in January 2015.

In 2005 Susanne Walsleben and her husband adopted an eight-year-old girl as a foster child.
