Susumu Shikano

Susumu Shikano (born January 26, 1971 in Yokohama ) is a Japanese political scientist . Since 2009 he has held a professorship for methods of empirical political and administrative research at the Department of Political and Administrative Science at the University of Konstanz .

academic career

Shikano studied political science at Waseda University and Keiō University in Tokyo. In 1993 he received the instructor for middle and high schools but in the subjects of politics and society, history and geography, his studies continued and completed in 1995 with the Master from. He then went to the University of Mannheim in Germany, where he received his doctorate with Franz Urban Pappi in 2001 and his habilitation in 2007.

After completing his doctorate, Shikano was assistant professor for political sociology and comparative political science in Mannheim from 2001 and project manager at the Mannheim Center for European Social Research from 2003 . In addition to his work there, he was at the University of Potsdam from 2008 to 2009 as a substitute professor at the Chair of Politics and Governance in Germany and Europe. In 2009 he was a substitute professor at the Chair for Methods in Empirical Political and Administrative Research at the University of Konstanz .

For this chair, which he had previously represented at the University of Konstanz, Shikano was offered a full professorship in 2009. In 2011 he became chairman of the political and administrative science department in Konstanz for two years. Since 2012, he has also been a member of the executive committee of the Graduate School of Decision Sciences at the University of Konstanz .

From 2011 to 2013 Shikano was a fellow at the Hanse-Wissenschaftskolleg in Delmenhorst . In the 2015 summer semester he was a visiting professor at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Vienna .

Between 2005 and 2011, Shikano was one of the spokespersons for the Action and Decision Theory working group of the German Association for Political Science and, in this role, co-editor of the Yearbook for Action and Decision Theory. He resigned from the association in 2015.

research

Shikano is primarily concerned with issues of political sociology , comparative government and (quantitative) method research . Specifically, he led projects and published publications on election and voter research , party competition and coalition theory.
