Suzanne Balogh

Suzanne "Suzy" Elspeth Balogh (born May 8, 1973 in Queanbeyan ) is an Australian marksman. It starts in the Trap and Double Trap disciplines .

Athletic career

Suzanne Balogh started shooting in 1998. In the same year she finished 16th in the trap at the World Championships in Barcelona. In 1999 she won the Oceania Championships in trap and won bronze in double trap. In 2001 she finished sixth in trap and 21st in double trap at the World Championships in Cairo. In the same year she won her only World Cup competition in Seoul. At the Oceania Championships in 2001 she won silver in double trap and finished sixth in trap. In 2003 she was fifth in the world championships in trap and won her second ocean title in this discipline.

At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, she won the gold medal in the trap with four points ahead of the Spaniard María Quintanal and five points ahead of the third-placed South Korean Lee Bo-na . After qualifying, Balogh was one point ahead of Quintanal and six points ahead of Lee. Two days after her Olympic victory in the trap, Balogh only reached 13th place in the qualification in the double trap.

In 2005 she won the Oceania Championships in double trap and won bronze in trap. At the Commonwealth Games 2006 in Melbourne Balogh did not win an individual medal, but received gold in the team trap with Deserie Baynes and bronze in the team double trap with Susan Trindall . In 2007 Balogh won the Trap Oceania Championships. At the 2007 World Championships in Nicosia, she achieved her best world championship placement with fourth place in the trap.

After a long break, she reached 22nd place in the trap at the 2011 World Championships. At the 2012 Olympic Games in London she reached the final, but only came in sixth and last place. Suzanne Balogh remained active even after her great successes. She won a bronze medal in double trap at the Oceania Championships in 2017.
