The Secret of the Loch ( German : The Secret of the lake , mutatis mutandis, The Secret of Loch Ness , Alternative title Sinister Deeps = Darkening Deeps ) is a British feature film about the Loch Ness monster and the first film in which the legend is discussed. The premiere took place in May 1934.

action

After numerous newspaper reports about a monster in Loch Ness , Professor Heggie wants to prove to the incredulous public and the professional world that the monster exists in the form of a dinosaur . He receives support from the London reporter Jimmy Anderson, who smells the big scoop . Jimmy falls in love with Angela, the professor's granddaughter. In a hotel on Loch Ness, a crowd of other good-humored and hard-drinking reporters gathers who approve the local whiskey and make friends with the local Scots and wait for new news from the monster.

Jimmy succeeds in winning the friendship of Angus, a true Scot and assistant to the professor. Before leaving, Jimmy “stole” the tartan tie from the secretary of his newspaper . Angus recognizes the pattern as that of a related clan and feels compelled to help Jimmy, even if it goes against his duties as the professor's assistant.

The professor hired Jack, the diver , to investigate the lake. But when Jack dives down from a small steamer to the bottom of the lake, he sees a gigantic shadow. It's the last thing he sees. When the boat crew notices that Jack has lost contact with the connecting ropes, they pull them up. But Jack has disappeared without a trace.

Now Jimmy decides to take a dive. He finds the Loch Ness Monster, a gigantic underwater iguana . He attacks Jimmy, but the reporter escapes to the surface. The monster appears and is seen by the boat crew: Professor Heggie's dinosaur theory is proven.
