Sveitabrúðkaup (German country wedding ) is an Icelandic film from 2008. The world premiere took place on August 28, 2008 in Háskólabío in Reykjavík . It is the first directorial work by director and film editor Valdís Óskarsdóttir .
The film tells of a wedding party from Reykjavík who cannot find the way to their ordered church in the country.
action
Inga and Βarði have decided to get engaged after three years of living together.
Inga wants an old-fashioned wedding in which the bride and groom only meet at the altar. The company finds itself in two buses in front of the bride's house - divided according to the families of the bride and groom. You want to get married in a church in the country, which is only an hour's bus ride from Reykjavík. The only problem is that nobody has been to this church before and knows exactly where it is. The pastor cannot give more precise directions over the phone than "just drive west". He drinks beer and watches football and waits.
Emotions boil in the narrow buses and so Atli's pent-up anger at his future-brother-in-law soon dissolves in a fight. The bride mother Imba fears for her lover Svanur.
Finally you arrive at the real white church with a red roof. There Séra Brynjólfur proves to be unable to carry out the wedding because he is now drunk. Stefán tells Barði's sister Auður that he is her real father. What Barði's father Lúðvík suffers from a heart attack. The wedding finally breaks down when the parents of the bride and groom insult each other wildly.
Emergence
There is no classic script. Instead, Valdís Óskarsdóttir wrote role descriptions for the actors and a rough concept for the bus stops. Overall, the style is close to that of the documentary.
Some of the descriptions can be found on the website. The descriptions of some of the characters got lost during the recordings on Snæfellsnes .
