Gísli Örn Garðarsson

Gísli Örn Garðarsson (born December 15, 1973 in Reykjavík ) is an Icelandic actor , film producer , author and director and was a competitive gymnast in the Icelandic national team for 15 years.

Life

After his career as a competitive gymnast, Gísli Örn Garðarsson first appeared in the media as an actor in 2001 and was popular with a wider audience through his guest appearance in the US cinema production Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (2010) with actors such as Ben Kingsley and Jake Gyllenhaal known. In the same year he founded the film and theater production company Vesturport .

His directorial debut with the production of Romeo and Juliet at Borgarleikhúsið was a great success, where he himself played the male lead (Romeo). Subsequently, due to the success, the production was transferred to the Young Vic Theater in London and became known to an even larger audience. This resulted in further directorial work and, among other things, several guest performances in Germany and mentions in the German press reviews and by theater critics .

As a theater director, his guest productions in Germany have often been described as exaggerated and circus-like, with the press describing his 2004 production of Romeo and Juliet in London's West End as one of the “most exciting theater events in years”.

Gísli Örn Garðarsson is an Icelandic citizen who grew up in Norway . In 2001 he completed his four year acting training at the Icelandic Academy of the Arts in Iceland.
