Sven Michel (born March 30, 1988 in Brienz BE ) is a Swiss curler . He plays the skip position .

Career

Michel celebrated his first international success at the 2010 European Mixed Curling Championships in Howwood by winning the silver medal. He played there as second in the team around Skip Claudio Pätz, his sister Alina Pätz and Gioia Oechsle.

At the beginning of April 2011, Michel took part in a World Curling Championship for the first time . He supported the team of the Curling Club St. Moritz around Skip Christof Schwaller as an alternate. The team did not make it past the round robin and finished the tournament in seventh place. He won the subsequent Curling Mixed Doubles World Championship in Saint Paul together with his girlfriend Alina Pätz.

As Skip, he took part in a World Cup for the first time in spring 2013. His team missed the playoffs and finished seventh. Michel won his first medal at a European Curling Championship with a victory at the 2013 European Championships in his third participation in a European Championship as Skip. He did not succeed in defending the European title at the 2014 home championship . His team lost the playoff game against Norway's Skip Thomas Ulsrud , but then won against Italy in the third place match.

For the 2015/2016 season, the Adelboden team merged with the team from the Curling Club Bern around Skip Marc Pfister and his brother Enrico Pfister. They had become national champions in the preseason and represented Switzerland at the World Cup in Canada . The newly formed team then also won the Swiss Championships in February 2016 and qualified for the home World Cup in Basel . Despite high expectations, the team failed to qualify for the playoffs and ended the tournament in 9th place. Due to the disappointing performance at the World Championships, the team separated from Sven Michel, his long-time Skip. Marc Pfister replaced him as Skip and Raphael Märki as the fourth team member. Since the 2018/19 season, he has been playing third in Peter de Cruz's team as the successor to Claudio Pätz .
