Sven Neuhaus (born April 4, 1978 in Essen ) is a former German soccer goalkeeper .

Career

Neuhaus began his career in 1983 at Borussia Byfang and in 1990 he switched to Schwarz-Weiß Essen and in 1994 he joined the youth department of Fortuna Düsseldorf . In 2001 he moved to the second division team SpVgg Greuther Fürth .

At Fürth he played 56 second division games in the following five years and was only the goalkeeper in the 2003/04 season. In 2006 he moved to FC Augsburg , where he was the first goalkeeper until Simon Jentzsch was signed for the 2009/10 season. He then agreed with the club to terminate the contract and signed a two-year contract with an extension option with the league club RB Leipzig .

The contract, which was dated June 30, 2011, was not extended by RB Leipzig.

On August 25, 2011, Hamburger SV announced Neuhaus's commitment. Neuhaus signed a one-year contract until June 30, 2012. He was hired as a "training goalkeeper" to complement the goalkeeper training around Jaroslav Drobný and Tom Mickel . Occasionally he received assignments in friendly matches and in the second team in the fourth-class Regionalliga Nord . After Mickel broke his hand at the beginning of the second half of the season, Neuhaus took his place on the bench as a substitute goalkeeper. On April 21, 2012, the 32nd matchday of the 2011/12 season , Neuhaus made his debut in the Bundesliga at the age of 34 when he played in the away game against 1. FC Nürnberg (1-1) in the 23rd minute was substituted on for the injured Jaroslav Drobný. On May 22, 2012, his contract, which expired at the end of the season, was extended by one year to June 30, 2013. Towards the end of the 2012/13 season, in which Neuhaus mostly guarded the U-23 goal and thus played a significant role in staying up, his contract was extended to June 30, 2014.

At the end of the 2013/14 season, he ended his active professional career.

Since the end of his career, Neuhaus has been committed to the Der Hamburger Weg foundation . He performs representative tasks of the organization in public and is the contact person for social projects and fan clubs of the HSV.
