Svetlana Alexejewna Gannushkina
Swetlana Alexejewna Gannushkina ( Russian Светлана Алексеевна Ганнушкина , scientific transliteration Svetlana Alekseevna Gannuschkina , English transcription Svetlana Gannushkina ; born March 6, 1942 in Moscow ) is a Russian human rights mathematician and human rights mathematician . She is the head of the refugee aid organization Citizen Support ( Гражданское содействие ) and the “Migration and Law” network ( Миграция и Право ). In 2016 she received the Right Livelihood Award (Alternative Nobel Prize).
biography
Svetlana Gannuschkina is married and has a daughter and a son. In 1965 she finished her mathematics studies at the Lomonosov University in Moscow . From 1968 to 1969 she worked at the University of Chemical Engineering in Moscow. From 1970 to 2000 she was a mathematics professor at the University of History and Archiving (currently Moscow University of Humanities ).
Political commitment
Swetlana Gannuschkina has been campaigning for refugees and displaced persons since the end of the 1980s, when the dissolution of the Soviet Union resulted in significant influx of refugees. In 1990, together with other committed citizens, she founded the civil support organization , the first human rights organization in the Soviet Union to offer a wide range of support specifically to refugees and displaced persons. They are offered legal assistance and help with dealing with authorities. The refugee aid organization also offers medical and psychological help, as well as help with finding work.
Since 1994, Gannushkina paid particular attention to the systematic violations of human rights in Chechnya , from where people fled to other parts of Russia.
In 1996 she founded the network of legal advice centers for refugees and displaced persons “Migration and Law” ( Миграция и право ) at the legal center of the human rights organization “ Memorial ”. Lawyers from all over Russia are united in this network.
From 2002 to 2012 she was a member of the Commission on Human Rights of the President of the Russian Federation . Svetlana Gannushkina worked with members of the Russian Duma , particularly on laws affecting refugee rights.
On her initiative, residents of Chechnya have been receiving medical help since 2004 in collaboration with Caritas in France ( Secours catholique - Caritas France ). The project is financially supported by the EU Commission.
In 2010 she signed the "Putin must go" petition. Swetlana Gannuschkina has been nominated several times for the Nobel Peace Prize, most recently in 2011. She is also one of 1000 women who ran for this prize as part of the 1000 Women for the Nobel Peace Prize 2005 project .
In 2016, she ran for Yabloko in the Duma elections on the Chechnya regional list , as Yabloko is currently the only party that can effectively oppose the government.
