The Sydfyenske Dampskibsselskab A / S (SFDS) was a Danish shipping company that operated connections to and from Langeland and other islands in the Danish South Sea ( Danish Sydfynske Øhav ).

history

The shipping company was founded on July 20, 1875. The head office was on the Jessen pier in Svendborg . In 1878 the company was transformed into Aktieselskab (A / S) .

On July 13, 1878, the steamship Thor was the first operation of a company ship on the Svendborg– Nakskov - Lübeck route .

In 1884 the company acquired the operating rights in Langelandsbælt and took over D / S Svendborgsund and the Svendborg– Vemmenæs route on May 1 of the same year . The Faaborg Dampskibsselskab was adopted on 26 November 1884th In 1885 the Rudkøbing - Svendborg ferry line was taken over .

The A / S Sunddamperne in Svendborg was acquired in 1900 and 1905 serving the coastal route along the island Langeland. Between 1912 and 1920 the company sailed the route between Bandholm and the surrounding small islands ( Øerne ).

In 1991 a division into two parts: a parent company, which retained the name as well as a transport company that SFDs 1991 af A / S was called. On 15 August 1996 bought DSB Rederi , later Scandlines , the shares of SFDs af 1991 A / S .

On January 1st, 2008 the parent company was taken over by Clipper Group A / S. The transport company Nordic Ferry Services was founded in cooperation with Bornholmstrafikken , which operated further routes and was transferred to the Færgen shipping company on January 14, 2011 .
