Syli
Syli (" elephant ") was from 1971 to 1986 the name of the currency of the West African state of Guinea . Syli means elephant in the regional language Susu and other West African languages , which was the heraldic animal of Guinea at that time. The Syli was divided into 100 Cauris (plural of Cauri derived from cowrie money ). The predecessor (exchange 10: 1) and also the successor (exchange 1: 1) of the currency was the Guinean Franc . The ISO 4217 currency code of the Syli is GNS , the abbreviation SY .
