Sylvanus Griswold Morley (Romanist)

Sylvanus Griswold Morley (born February 23, 1878 in Baldwinville , Worcester County , Massachusetts , † December 24, 1970 in Berkeley , California ) was an American Romanist and Hispanist .

Life

Morley received his PhD from Harvard University in 1902 with the thesis Spanish influence on Molière . He was a professor of Spanish at the University of California, Berkeley .

Morley is often confused with his cousin of the same name, the Maya explorer Sylvanus Griswold Morley .
