Sylvia Nooij (born November 9, 1984 in Amsterdam - † July 8, 2017 ) was a Dutch soccer player .
Career
society
Nooij started her career at RKSV DCG. From there she joined the youth team of the Amsterdam club SC Buitenveldert in 1994 and became a senior here in 2000. After four years at senior level at Buitenveldert, she moved to Ter Leede Sassenheim in 2004 . With Ter Leede she won the cup and championship double in 2006/07. After the double, she moved to ADO Den Haag within the Eredivisie . In the 2011/12 season she was a double winner with ADO and a year later she repeated the cup victory. After winning the 2014 Cup, she left the Netherlands and moved to the US Dayton Dutch Lions FC from Ohio . After a season she returned to the Netherlands and played again for six months at ADO Den Haag before joining her former youth club SC Buitenveldert in summer 2015, for which she played until her death in 2017.
National team
On March 7, 2009, Nooij made his debut in the Dutch women's national team against Canada at the age of 25 . The defender played six full international matches for the Netherlands from 2009 to 2012.
As a trainer
After returning from the USA to the Netherlands in 2014, she became assistant coach of the U-17s at ADO Den Haag.
Personal
From 2013 to 2014 she worked for Bureau Jeugdzorg , the Dutch youth welfare office, in Leiden .
death
On July 8, 2017, Nooij suffered an epileptic seizure , to which she succumbed at the age of 32. In her honor, Dutch fans remembered their deceased national player with a standing ovation in the 32nd minute (the age of Nooij) at the European Championship opening match between the Netherlands and Norway .
