Sylvie Desgroseilliers , born Sylvie Guimont (* 1965 in Montreal ) is a Canadian gospel - and soul - singer of Haitian descent.

Career

Sylvie Desgroseilliers worked for a law firm until she was 35 and only sang in her free time in church choirs, including the Montreal Jubilation Gospel Choir and the Chœur Gospel Célébration de Québec . Then she began to work full-time as a singer. She has appeared in the musicals Rock at the Opera , Belle & Bum and Génération Motown . In 2005 Desgroseilliers sang the national anthem at the inauguration ceremony of Governor General of Canada Michaëlle Jean and released her first album Sylvie Desgroseilliers on Universal Music Canada that same year . She released her second album Ensemble in 2009. She sings in both English and French. Desgroseilliers appeared in 2005 in a highly acclaimed appearance at the world's largest jazz festival, the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, together with Patti LaBelle . In 2006 she sang at the opening event of the Outgames in Montreal . She also appears on various Canadian television shows, touring and festivals, and continues to work in musicals. At the beginning of 2015, Sylvie Desgroseilliers' appearance on the casting show La Voix on Canadian television caused a sensation. In addition to recognition for her powerful voice, she received criticism that she was taking the place away from younger participants due to her age.
