Sylvie Lespérance

Sylvie Lespérance (born December 21, 1954 in Jonquière , † September 22, 2006 in Saint-Adolphe-de-Rodriguez ) was a Canadian politician in the province of Québec .

education and profession

After a diploma in nursing (1975), she obtained a Bachelor in Science from the University of Montréal (1981) and a Master in Gerontology from the University of Sherbrooke (1996). Since 1975 she has been a member of the Québec Nursing Association. After completing her training, she worked in various departments in Sherbrooke hospitals and was also chair of the Sherbrooke Nursing Alliance for several years. From 1984 to 1996 she held various administrative positions at the Association of Health and Social Insurance Employees (AGESS), including as Vice President and President.

Political activities

As a candidate for the Parti libéral, she was defeated in both 1989 and 1998 in the elections to the Québec National Assembly . In a by-election in the constituency of Joliette on June 17, 2002, she was elected to the National Assembly as a candidate for the Action démocratique du Québec , but lost this seat again the following year in the general parliamentary election on March 12, 2003.
