Sophie Diez
Sophie Diez , née Sophie Hartmann , (born September 1, 1820 in Munich ; † May 3, 1887 ibid) was a German stage actress and opera singer ( soprano ).
Life
Diez was a daughter of the Munich town musician Hartmann, through whom she also received her first musical lessons. As a child she sang in the church choir. In the winter of 1835/36 Diez became a member of the choir at the royal court theater . There she was soon discovered and further trained by the conductors Franz Lachner and T. Lenz. With their support, she was able to successfully debut as a soubrette in the role of Angelina the following year (December 1st) .
In the following years Diez was able to participate in several premieres that were highly praised by critics : on May 20, 1838 Die Huguenots , on July 23, 1841 Tsar and Carpenter , on November 13, 1846 Der Waffenschmied a . a.
In 1841 Diez married her colleague Ernst Friedrich Diez in Munich .
At the end of 1866 Diez was able to celebrate her 30th stage anniversary with great sympathy from her audience and Prince Regent Luitpold appointed her royal. Chamber singer . In 1870 she made the management of the National Theater an honorary member.
With effect from December 31, 1877 Diez officially resigned from the stage; but was seen one last time on April 11, 1878 as Nandl .

Sophie Diez died on May 3, 1887 at the age of 66 in Munich. The burial place of Sophie Diez is located in the Old South Cemetery in Munich (burial ground 4 - row 8 - 57th) Location . Her husband Ernst Friedrich Diez survived her by five years and died in December 1892. He, too, is buried in the grave.
reception
She was characterized by her beautiful voice, her pleasant representational ability and surprising versatility. The latter is known from her repertoire, which includes almost all roles in both great and comic opera. It is characteristic that in Figaro's wedding she sang all female roles apart from Marcelline, and six roles in the Magic Flute .
