Symphony (grape variety)
Symphony is a white wine variety . Harold Olmo crossed them in 1940 at the University of California at Davis .
The grape variety was launched on the market in 1983 . Currently, only small stocks of the Symphony variety are planted in California . In 2008 the acreage was 918 acres (371 hectares ).
Synonyms
Symphony is also known under the breed line number Davis S15-58 or California S15-58.
Ampelographic varietal characteristics
In ampelography , the habitus is described as follows:
- The cone-shaped grape is shouldered and dense. The round berries are medium-sized and yellow-green in color. The taste of the berries is aromatic (like nutmeg).
The vigorous and high-yielding grape variety ripens about 30 days after the Gutedel and is therefore considered to ripen late. It is a variety of the noble grapevine ( Vitis vinifera ).
- Parentage: Muscat d'Alexandrie × Grenache Gris .
