Jozef Kabaň (born January 4, 1973 in Námestovo , Czechoslovakia ) is a Slovak automobile designer .

education

After graduating from school in 1991, he studied product and industrial design at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava , Slovakia .

In 1997, Jozef Kabaň received a Master of Art in Vehicle Design from the Royal College of Art ( London , England ), making him the first native Slovak to graduate from this post-graduate institution.

Professional career

While still a student, Kabaň took part in a Škoda design competition organized by Volkswagen. His performance in second place seemed to have made an impression on Volkswagen, as he was supported by Volkswagen during the rest of his studies and was then offered a position as a junior / assistant designer .

During his time at Volkswagen, Kabaň received strong support from the then head of design, Hartmut Warkuß . Under Warkuss' leadership, Kabaň was jointly responsible for the design of the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 from 1999 and oversaw this super sports car project from the first drafts to the start of series production.

Jozef Kabaň left Volkswagen AG in 2003 and switched to Audi , where he has been head of the vehicle exterior design department since 2006.

Since February 1, 2008, Kabaň was the new chief designer at Škoda Auto, where he succeeded Jens Manske , while Manske switched back to the parent company Volkswagen. He played a key role in the design of the Rapid (2012 and 2017), Octavia (2009, 2012 and 2017), Fabia (2010 and 2014), Superb (2013 and 2015) and Škoda Kodiaq (2017) vehicles . Kabaň was also responsible for various vehicle studies ( Škoda VisionC , Škoda MissionL , Škoda Vision D , Škoda VisionS ).

On February 8, 2017, it was officially confirmed that Kabaň will be the new chief designer at BMW .

Kabaň has been chief designer at Rolls-Royce since April 1, 2019 .
