The Old Synagogue Kreuzburg was a synagogue in Kreuzburg , on the southeastern edge of the old town, on Oppelner Straße, confluence with the Promenade.
history
The sacred building, completed in the Moorish - Neo-Romanesque style in 1886 according to plans by the district architect Friedrich, was inaugurated by Rabbi Ferdinand Rosenthal on September 15 of the same year.
On November 10, 1938, the synagogue was set on fire by SA people during the November pogroms . The fire brigade only protected the adjacent houses on Oppelner Strasse. A few days after the fire, the remaining walls were torn down and the members of the Jewish community were deported . Eyewitness Ottfried Willhardt said: “On the first floor of the synagogue, I saw an SA man smashing wooden objects with an ax at a window and throwing them into the flames ...
