The former synagogue in Upper Silesian Oberglogau (Głogówek) dates from the 1860s and belonged to the liberal Jewish community. It is located at Ulica Szkolna 1.

history

The Oberglogau synagogue was built in 1869. It was designed by the Oberglogau architect and builder Frankel. According to oral tradition, there should have been a wooden structure beforehand. The stone building has a rectangular base with the dimensions 11.65 by 18.75 meters. In the interior, the church had galleries on three sides for the women on cast-iron pillars. Behind the entrance was a vestibule from which one came into the main hall. On the east side was a richly decorated Torah shrine with a dome.

In the synagogue of Oberglogau there was once a Torah scroll from the 18th century with silver work by Johann Gottlieb Muche from Breslau. This was adorned with the coat of arms of the princes of Hatzfeld .

After the November pogroms on the night of November 9th to 10th, 1938, the building was preserved. After 1945 it was rebuilt and converted into an agricultural warehouse. The turrets at the four corners were flattened at roof level. The apse was finally dismantled in the 1950s . The original shape of the building is still partially recognizable. The building was used as a shop in the 1990s and now houses apartments.
