The synagogue in Písek (German Pisek ), a Czech city in the South Bohemian region , was built in 1871. The secular synagogue between Smetanova and Soukenická streets has been a protected cultural monument since 2001 .

history

The synagogue, built in the Moorish style with neo-Romanesque elements, served the Jewish community as a place of worship until the German occupation in 1939. After the Second World War , the building was used as a warehouse and the prayer room was divided into two floors by a ceiling.

The synagogue has been owned by the Prague Jewish Community since 1995. The renovation of the synagogue in Písek was funded in 2005 by the German-Czech Future Fund (DTZF). The wall paintings in the prayer room are particularly worth mentioning.
