Synagogue in Kojetín

The synagogue in Kojetín (German Kojetein ), a town in the Olomouc Region ( Olomoucký kraj ) in the Czech Republic , was built in 1718. The derelict synagogue has been a protected cultural monument since 1998 .

history

The old synagogue building fell victim to a fire and was rebuilt in 1718 in the same place, in an alley between the market square and the city wall.

The synagogue was not destroyed during the November pogrom in 1938 , as the building was intended to be used as a department store. The interior of the synagogue was given to the Jewish Museum in Prague. A plaque commemorates the victims of the Shoah .

Today the former synagogue, the oldest building in the city, is used by the Hussite Church as a place of worship.
