The Synagogue in Delme , a commune in the Moselle department in the French region of Lorraine , was built from 1878 to 1880. The secular synagogue at number 31 rue Raymond-Poincaré has been classified as a Monument historique since 1984 . Today it is used for exhibitions.

History and description

Half of the construction costs were financed by the Jewish community and the other half by the Lorraine District Presidium or the political municipality of Delme. The synagogue in the Moorish style has a central dome , which was surrounded on all sides by semi-domes. Relatively small windows gave very little light to the interior.

The German occupiers in World War II blew up the synagogue building. In 1946 the synagogue was rebuilt in a simple form. Since there have been no services in the synagogue since 1981 , it was bought and renovated by the Delme community.
