Synapsis ilicifolia is the only kind of plant genus Synapsis and is the only four genera comprehensive family schlegeliaceae classified.
description
Synapsis ilicifolia is an upright tree with a rounded trunk and no hairs. The leaves are opposite, stem from the stem and stalk. The leaf blade is egg-shaped or elliptical, leathery, tapered towards the front and occupied by four to six spines , between the spines the edge is slightly curved.
The flowers are clearly stalked. Their calyx is five-part, bell-shaped and cup-shaped, the lobes are reduced to short, leathery teeth. The crown is tubular, purple to mauve, the five corolla lobes are arranged in two lips. The individual lobes are almost the same size, the corolla tube is straight, elongated and narrow and widens towards the coronet. The four stamens do not protrude beyond the crown. The ovary is ovoid, the scar is bilobed.
The fruit is a berry that contains a large number of indented seeds .
Occurrence
The species is endemic in eastern Cuba and occurs exclusively in the former province of Oriente .
