Syringa sweginzowii is a species of the olive family (Oleaceae).

description

Syringa sweginzowii is a shrub that reaches heights of 2.5 to 4 meters. The branches are bare and square on average. The petiole is 0.5 to 2 inches long and hairless or hairless. The leaf blade is 1.5 to 4 (rarely up to 8) centimeters long, 1 to 3 (rarely up to 5) centimeters wide and ovate, ovate-elliptical to lanceolate in shape. The upper side of the leaf is shiny and glabrous. The leaf base is wedge-shaped to slightly rounded. The leaf margin is purple-red in color on young leaves. The tip of the leaf is pointed to pointed. The inflorescence is a panicle . This is upright, terminal or lateral, 7 to 25 inches long and 3 to 15 inches wide. The flower stalk is 0 to 2 millimeters long. The cup is 1.5 to 2 millimeters in size. The crown is pink, purple to white in color and 0.9 to 2 centimeters in size. The corolla tube is 0.6 to 1.5 centimeters tall, slender and almost cylindrical. Their lobes are ovate-oblong to lanceolate and spread out. The anthers are yellow and inserted under or next to the opening of the corolla tube. The capsule is long, elliptical, smooth, and 1.5 to 2 centimeters in size.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 46 or 48.

The species blooms in May and June and produces fruit in September and October.

Occurrence

Syringa sweginzowii occurs only in western Sichuan , China. The species grows in thickets and forests on river banks and watercourses at altitudes of 2000 to 4000 meters.

Systematics

Syringa sweginzowii was first described in 1910 by Bernhard Adalbert Emil Koehne and Alexander von Lingelsheim . Synonyms are Syringa wilsonii C.K.Schneid. and Syringa tomentella subsp. sweginzowii (Koehne & Lingelsh.) J-yong Chen & DY Hong .
