Syringa alcohol ( 4-hydroxy-3,5-dimethoxybenzyl alcohol ) is an organic-chemical compound that is derived from benzyl alcohol , phenol and dimethoxybenzenes . The structure consists of a benzene ring with an attached hydroxymethyl group (-CH 2 OH), hydroxyl group (-OH) and two methoxy groups (-OCH 3 ) as substituents . The name comes - analogous to syringol , syringaaldehyde , syringic acid or acetosyringon - from the Latin name of lilac ( syringa ).
