Tóroddur Poulsen
Tóroddur Poulsen (born October 15, 1957 in Tórshavn , Faroe Islands ) is a Faroese writer , graphic artist and conceptual artist , known in the Faroe Islands as the "black punk poet".
life and work
Tóroddur Poulsen was born in 1957 to Palli (Jens Pauli) Poulsen from Toftir and Hanna Arge from Tórshavn. The Faroese first name Tóroddur is made up of Tór (the god Thor) and oddur ("tip") and is pronounced Tór · oddur . He has lived in Copenhagen since 1995 . This made the Danish language an increasingly important tool for him to communicate with a wider audience across Scandinavia.
Poulsen made his debut with the collection of poems Botnfall ("sediment") in 1984 and has since published over thirty collections of poetry and two prose works . His work is provocative ( Fullir einglar from 1986 translates as "drunken angels") and experimental. The Swiss Scandinavian Aldo Keel called him the "form player".
The self-contradicting poem VERK (December 31, 2015) gives a good impression of Poulsen poetry: “eg havi einki / at reypa mær av / at hava framt / í hesum ári // havi einki hoyrt // havi einki sæð // havi einki gjørt // eg havi bara / sitið her // og verið “(literal translation: WERK // I have nothing / what I can show off with / to have done it / this year // have heard nothing // have seen nothing // didn't do anything // I sat / just here / and was).
His first volume of prose Reglur ("Regelwerk", 1994) distinguishes him as one of the most important innovators in Faroese literature. It was nominated for the Nordic Council's Literature Prize in 1996, translated into Swedish in 1997 and its original fragmentary version appeared in German in 2006 in the Faroese anthology "Von Insel I know ..." . His second prose work Sót og søgn ("Soot and Sages", 1997) is also considered an important work of postmodern renewal.
In 2008 the Faroese director Katrin Ottarsdóttir published her film portrait about Poulsen ein regla um dagin má vera nokk! (One line a day must be enough; Faroese with Danish and English subtitles).
Tóroddur Poulsen is also active as a musician. Among other things, he released as Garasjuguð on the Faroese label tutl in 2008 Rock Against Færökitsch and in 2009 Meltingarvegurin .
Some of his graphic works were shown in an exhibition in Flensburg in 2013.
Awards
In 1992 Poulsen received the Faroe Islands Literature Prize for the poetry collections Navn nam við navn ("Names taking with names", 1991) and Villur ("wild", 1992). In 2013 he was awarded the Faroese Culture Prize ( Mentanarvirðisløn Landsins ). His works have been nominated for the Nordic Council's Literature Prize several times, but Poulsen has never received it:

Since 1999 he has been supported annually by the Danish State Art Foundation, the Statens Kunstfond , and received a three-year work grant in 2000.
