Tõnu Trubetsky (born April 24, 1963 in Tallinn , Estonian SSR ; also Tony Blackplait ) is an Estonian punk rock singer, poet and anarchist .

Career

Trubetsky was born in 1963 as the eldest son of Jaan Trubetsky, known as a bayan player, and his wife Leili Rikk in Tallinn, a part of the Soviet Union . There he attended a school and chose theater lessons as a focus . After graduating from school in 1982, he served in the Soviet Army .

He began his musical career in 1977 with his friend Anti Pathique, a punk rock guitarist. In addition, he worked as a session musician and wrote his own songs, which he processed into demo recordings with Teet Tibar . After his discharge from military service in 1984, he formed the punk band Vennaskond , which still exists and was one of the leading punk bands in Estonia during the 1980s. He also sang for several other punk bands like Felis Ultramarinus , Vürst Trubetsky & JMKE , The Un Concer and The Flowers of Romance . At Operatsioon Õ he was active as a guitarist in 1995.

Because of their anarchist ideas, the Vennaskond group was subjected to reprisals in the Soviet Union. At the beginning of 1991 Tõnu Trubetsky had to flee to Finland together with the other Vennaskond members and did not return home until Estonian independence was regained. During this absence, Vennaskond's first album was released.

After his return to Tallinn, Trubetsky worked as a guard at the production company ETKVL Kooperaator , when the Finnish director Pekka Karjalainen offered him in 1992 to star in the film Hysteria , which received, among other things, a Jussi Award. Trubetsky sang the song "Riga My Love" in the film.

He also writes articles for music magazines, including “Interview with Suzi Quatro ” in Hommikuleht and “Who Killed Sid Vicious?” In Muusik . He writes poetry and has published several science fiction novels with co-author Anti Pathique .

Trubetsky has been a member of Amnesty International since 1992 and of Maavalla Anarhistlik Liit , an Estonian anarchist association, since 1995 . In the parliamentary elections in 2007 and in the European elections in 2009, he was a candidate for the Estonian Greens . In August 2010 he became a member of the Estonian Center Party , which he left in the same year after feeling harassed and threatened.
