Törning

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Törning (Danish written Tørning ) is a former castle in the Danish North Schleswig , about 15 km west of Hadersleben and about 5 km east of Vojens not far from the church village Hammeleff . The former castle wall is still there. Törning is known nationwide as the setting for the novella Ein Fest auf Haderslevhuus by Theodor Storm .

history

Törning was built in the High Middle Ages as a sovereign castle. As the seat of a royal-ducal feudal man , the castle was the administrative center for several Harden in the far north-west of Schleswig . Towards the end of the 14th century, the castle was pledged to the Limbeck family , who succeeded them to the Ahlefeldt family . In 1394 the entire Gramharde was pledged to the lord on Törning , and in 1421 the three north-western Harden. It was not until 1494 that King Johann managed to get Törning, including the four Harden, back into his possession by exchanging it for Castle Gelting in Angling and the South Holstein Haseldorf with all associated possessions.

After Törning lost its strategic importance, the castle was abandoned during the reign of Frederick I. Although the Törninglehn was named as an independent district for a while, it was increasingly combined with the Hadersleben office . When Duke Johann the Elder had his new residential palace Hansburg built near the town of Hadersleben from 1560 , Törning lost all importance. In 1610 the Vorwerk was also closed. The free float south of the office from the nobility remained as an exclave with the Hadersleben office and was assigned to the Bollersleben bailiwick .

Conserves the name Törninglehn well into the 20th century as provost . This included - not entirely identical to the historical territory - that area of the Schleswig office of Hadersleben, which belonged to the diocese of Ripen .

today

Törning remained a small place to live in the parish of Hammeleff. After all, the place remained Dingstätte of the Gramharde. In the 19th century even a separate court building was built. The still impressive castle wall has been divided by a street since the 1850s. At the foot of the same is the historic water mill, which is partly set up as a local museum . The castle wall was set up as an arboretum in the imperial era, as evidenced by some very impressive tree shapes. To the north of the castle ramparts, the Törninggaard farm is a successor to the former Vorwerk. With the historic buildings, the mill pond and the surrounding forest, Törning has remained an idyllic excursion destination.

Trivia

Törning is the setting for the novel Ein Fest auf Haderslevhuus by Theodor Storm .

The Törninglehn Tower is the name given to high eight-sided church spiers with four triangular gables from the Gothic period. These are quite rare in the rest of Denmark and Schleswig , but occur frequently in the area of the old Törninglehn provost's office. The churches of Arrild , Brøns , Spandet and Vodder are striking examples .
