TÜRK-İŞ ( Türkiye İşçi Sendikaları Konfederasyonu , English Confederation of Turkish Trade Unions ) is the largest umbrella organization of Turkish industrial unions . Of the four umbrella organizations existing in Turkey, Türk-İş unites most of the organized workers in Turkey under one roof with at least 33 individual unions.

TÜRK-İŞ is a member of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) and the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC). In the membership list of the IGB, membership is given as 820,000 (as of November 2017).

history

The Bund was founded in Izmir in September 1952 with the help of US trade unions, at a time when there were no ILO standards in Turkey . In 1947 a law with restrictions was passed to legalize the work of trade unions. Türk-İş was the first official Turkish trade union federation and until 1967 represented the rights of workers as the only umbrella organization.

After the military coup in Turkey in 1980 , all trade union confederations in Turkey except Türk-İş had to stop working. Due to the closure of the trade union umbrella organization DİSK , some DİSK members converted to Türk-İş. After 1981, 1984 and 1991, the work of the previously banned unions were allowed again; Thus, Türk-İş was temporarily the only trade union umbrella organization in the country for months and was considered pro-government at the time. Due to the government-friendly attitude of the Türk-İş, she was suspended as a member by the ICFTU in 1981 . The trade union umbrella organization Türk-İş was subject to state control until the mid-1980s.
