Türkiye Vagon Sanayi A. Ş. ( TÜVASAŞ ) is a Turkish joint stock company that manufactures railway vehicles and their components. Tüvasaş is responsible for the maintenance and renovation of passenger trains for the Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Devlet Demiryolları (TCDD), the state railway company. The company exports to Pakistan , Bangladesh , Bulgaria and Iraq .
history
Tüvasaş was founded in 1951 as Vagon Tamir Atölyesi, i.e. wagon repair workshop, and was responsible for the repair of TCDD wagons. From 1961 the company produced passenger coaches in the factory in Adapazarı . From 1976 onwards, it also produced electrically operated S-Bahn trains in cooperation with Alstom . In 1985 the company got its current name.

The company's headquarters are in Adapazarı. On almost 80,000 m 2 , 85 cars can be built and 600 repaired here every year. Tüvasaş today has around 1200 employees (as of September 2011). İbrahim Ertiryaki has been the General Director and Chairman of the Board of Directors since 2003.
Products
The company produces, repairs and overhauls local and long-distance passenger coaches ( compartment cars , open- plan cars , sleeping cars ), electric and diesel multiple units as well as trams, vehicle components and bogies .
Tüvasaş has been building Turkey's first diesel multiple unit since 2011. The train is the result of a cooperation with Hyundai Rotem .
In 1990 the company presented the prototype of an automobile with the brand name Marti at the trade fair in Izmir . This was a small car. The open body offered space for three people. An electric motor propelled the vehicle.
