The T-50 was a Soviet light tank from World War II .

history

Development of the tank began in 1939 in the design office of the Leningrad Kirov factory with the aim of producing a successor to the T-26 light tank . The T-50 was an advanced tank design with features such as the three-man turret with commander's cupola, radio equipment in each tank, torsion bar suspension, and beveled armor.

Pilot production of the light tank began in Leningrad in May 1941. The entire construction was geared towards mass production in small factories that would have been overwhelmed with the construction of larger tanks like the T-34 . However, the concept encountered numerous difficulties during pilot production, which is why fewer than 75 pieces were produced. Because of these difficulties, the T-60 light tank, which was much easier to manufacture, was chosen for mass production.
