The vehicles of the 46051 series were tender locomotives of the Turkish State Railways (TCDD) for express train traffic . They were built by Henschel & Sohn in Kassel . The eleven locomotives of this series delivered to Turkey were given the numbers 46051-46061. The first locomotive was delivered in 1937.
history
In the mid-1930s, TCDD ordered eleven 1'D1 ' and twenty 1'E steam locomotives from Henschel & Sohn in Kassel. The series 46051 and 56001 had identical boilers and cylinders for the purpose of standardization and were derived from the series 41 , which was then in production for the Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR) . Turkish locomotives developed based on the unit locomotive program the DR and received many standardized components. The design changes compared to the 41 series mainly concerned the axle load , which was reduced from 20 t to 18 t, and the coupling wheels, which were increased from 1600 mm to 1750 mm. Only the drive wheels of the 46051 were larger than those of the 56001, which meant that the 46051 reached higher speeds than the 56001.
In 1937 the first locomotive with the number 46051 was delivered. In 1937, Henschel delivered a total of eleven locomotives of this series with the TCDD road numbers 46051 to 46061.
The locomotives were the only ones on the TCDD to reach a top speed of 100 km / h . Until they were replaced by diesel locomotives , they pulled the high-quality passenger trains on the Ankara - Istanbul route . In the high-quality passenger train service, they replaced the slower class 46001 .
Similar to the standard locomotives of the DR, the ratio of the tube to the radiant heating surface of 13.1: 1 was relatively unfavorable. With the predecessor series 46001 it was still 9.9: 1.
Preserved locomotives
Two locomotives of the 46051 series have been preserved: 46052, operational in the Konya depot of the TCDD and 46059 in the Çamlık Railway Museum .
