The class 56301 of the Turkish State Railways (TCDD) is a class of 1E - "Decapod" - steam locomotives , which are known as "Skyliner". They were built by the Vulcan Iron Works in Wilkes-Barre , Pennsylvania . The 88 locomotives of this series were given the numbers 56301–56388. The first locomotive was delivered in 1947.

They were the first locomotives built in the United States to be ordered by the TCDD, they already owned former USATC class S 200 ( TCDD series 46201 ) and USATC class S 160 ( TCDD series 45171 ) locomotives. The locomotives of this series had the largest boilers and fire boxes of all Turkish locomotives and were the only ones with stokers .

They were equipped with a leading Bissel frame and, according to American practice, with a one-piece frame with cylinders ( monoblock frame). They mainly operated the Irmak - Zonguldak Montanbahn . There they towed heavy coal and ore trains until 1984/85 before they switched to shunting.

Three locomotives have been preserved: 56,375 in the TCDD open-air steam locomotive museum in Ankara , 56,337 in the Çamlık Railway Museum and 56,359 operational in Cankiri . The 56369 and the 56376 also exist partly still in Cankiri and are used as spare parts dispensers for the 56359.
